January-March: fishing is fantastic in Alabama during these colder months. I focus most of my attention on fishing the many river systems of Mobile Bay, Wolf Bay, and Perdido Bay.
During these months, I spend a lot of time on the north end of Mobile Bay fishing: Spanish River, Tensaw River, Mobile River, Blakely River, and Raft River. Speckled Trout fishing is often very rewarding here if you can brave the cold this time of the year.
I spend a lot of time on the south end of Mobile Bay as well during these times fishing: Fish River, Magnolia River, Bon Secour River fishing for Specks and Redfish. Fishing the piers of these rivers with live shrimp is productive for Redfish, while fishing the drop-offs and the open river around baitfish is the most productive for Speckled Trout.
April-August: some of my favorite fishing of the year happens during these months. The warmer temperatures have gotten more consistent by April, which heats up the shallow waters of Mobile Bay pushing baitfish and gamefish out of their deep water winter time hideouts.
Speckled Trout & Redfish fishing is fantastic around Fairhope, Pt. Clear, Bon Secour, Fort Morgan, Dauphin Island, and Orange Beach. There are many oyster beds, gas rigs, artificial reefs, and other structures in these waters which create many productive spots to fish.
Trout and Redfish can often be caught fishing the same structures, whether it's around piers, drop-offs, or oyster beds.
Redfishing in inshore waters during these months in Orange Beach is fantastic around the inside and outside of Perdido Pass. Speckled Trout and Flounder fishing is good fishing the piers in Orange Beach.
Warm weather also means Triple Tail (Blackfish) fishing in Mobile Bay - one of my favorites to catch, and eat. Mobile Bay is one of the best fisheries for Triple Tail, and May-August is the best time to catch them. Usually found in the deeper waters of Mobile Bay under submerged debris, the bait of choice for them is a large live shrimp.
September-December: Fall fishing in Alabama at its finest!
With the cooler weather and football season, Speckled Trout are on the move towards their winter time homes. All of the river systems on the north end of Mobile Bay are productive. A litter farther south, Magnolia River, Fish River, and Bon Secour River are all very productive.
Live Shrimp under a cork is hard to beat, but fishing artificials during these months are often equally as effective. Early in the morning you can have good success on topwater lures such as a Rapala Skitterwalk or a Mirr-O-Lure Top Dog. Later in the morning one of my personal favorites is the Mirr-O-Lure Mirrodine. It is a suspending bait that resembles a menhaden. Another one of my go-to baits is a 1/4 ounce jig-head with a 4-6" soft body grub.
Redfish fishing around the Grand Hotel in Pt. Clear is also very good during these months.
